What do you know about Domain Authority (DA)? No idea at all then please go through this.

Domain Authority (DA) is an important SEO factor for your weblog and increment of it helps you to rank higher and to get more traffic.

Most of the new bloggers are not aware with this term even though it is related with SEO. If you have knowledge about DA then you can rank better by improving it and you will be one step ahead from your competitors. So let’s discuss What is Domain Authority and how to Increase it?

What is Domain Authority?

How to Improve Domain Authority

  • DA is developed by Moz and through it the power of domain name is measured on the scale of 1 to 100 (higher is better) and that describes Domain Authority. In short it is a measurement of your domain.
  • DA mainly depends on back linking means how many quality backlinks are pointing to your site?
  • Using Moz Domain Authority checker tool you can check your DA score.
  • Here one thing I want to clear that after checking DA score don’t be panic if it is low because it takes a time to score well.
  • If your site is just 1-2 year old then don’t expect high score and you can’t change it like you can change Meta tag.
  • But if you do some good practice from begin then you can earn good score within a short time period, so how to improve DA?

How to Increase Domain Authority?

This is the common question of all bloggers who have low DA score. The answer is very simple. As we had mentioned above that back linking affects most to improve DA score. So two things you have to do.

  1. Remove bad links
  2. Gain good links

For bad links, you have to first check all your backlinks and then you can contact the site to remove it or you can simply disavow it. Don’t know how? Then read How to use Google Disavow tool to Disavow links?

Now what to do to gain good links?

Quality and Related Content

  • All the famous bloggers like Neil Patel, Rand Fishkin and Darren Rowse has said one thing common and that is [bctt tweet=”Content is the king for blogging field”]
  • Nothing is as important as content in blogging field. By the content only you can hold your readers to your blog. Be more descriptive and write minimum 800-1000 words article. Use infographics in your articles. If your content is good then only other blogs will link with you or give link pointing to your blog.

SEO matters

  • Moz explained that to improve DA you have to take care of overall SEO. Overall means overall like URL structure, robots.txt, meta tags, header tags, alt tags, keywords etc. Take care of all On Page SEO factors in mind while writing a post.

Link Internally

  • With external linking, internal linking is also important. It is a powerful network within your site that weaves your site network. At last it helps both users and the search engines to crawl and index your site. Without internal linking your site is like pages without attachments.

Remove spam and broken links

  • Check for spam and broken links at regular interval. As you know that spam links can harm your site performance. Due to spam links your site may get penalize by Google Panda, so don’t wait till a penalty strikes you. Precaution is better than cure so check for such links regularly and remove it.

With all these, you have to keep some patience because older your domain is higher the chances of increment in DA.

Domain Authority vs Page Authority

  • Through Moz Domain Authority checker tool, you can check DA score. In that score card, you will find the Page Authority score and that is also measured out of 100. PA score depends on normal On Page SEO techniques means how rich your page is in terms of SEO.
  • After seeing both scores, only one question raises in most of the peoples’ mind that what is more important, DA or PA?
  • As per the well-known bloggers, Domain Authority score is more important than Page Authority. Why? Because PA score helps to rank any single page only while DA helps to rank your whole domain. Perfect answer of the question you can find here at Moz community site.

Below image shows the words of Neil Patel on DA, you can read it here. He has clearly mentioned that you can’t improve DA immediately. He has said to focus more on Content.Neil patel

    Hi Jay,

You have put it up nicely. I often get asked “how to increase domain authority” , I’ll happily send a link to this post if someone asks hereafter.

I agree, content is the most important ranking factor. My blog is hardly SEO optimized still I have crossed 25+ DA which means even a poorly optimized blog can get scores around 20 or 30 provided there is some evergreen content published on the blog.

Removing/fixing the broken links must also be our priority. I’m guilty of not frequently checking for broken links.

Thanks for sharing this informative post, Jay. I am sharing this with my Twitter friends.

Improving Domain Authority is proving very difficult task for me, I was wondering how, Domain authority 40 can be achieved.

But recently getting help from many experts, so now I am focusing on tips which can increase DA,

Although, I have a question here, Will High DA means my ranking will be good? or it’s just a waste?

      Hi Rubel,

High DA means your site is more trustable and that’s why search engine crawler will crawl your site faster and it will also help to rank higher.

Great article. On the topic of domain age. Are there any simple things that a webmaster can do to “age faster”? I’ve read that securing longer leases and might help. I’m wondering if there is anything else worth taking a look at. Or is it a case of simple being patient and “Waiting until you grow up” before you can play with the big (old) boys?

      Hi Tim,

Actually, there are some shortcuts but not useful for the long term, so rather go with that, I would suggest just go with the natural way and wait until you grow. If you have good content and traffic it would not take more time.

I have been trying hard to increase domain authority of my blog, but even after working for few months, I haven’t seen any improvements.

So, where I am going wrong? Does I need to create links in bulk to get high Domain Authority?

If yes, then How many links to need to get?

I am not sure what to do.

    looking for quick response.

      Hello Siya,

First of all sorry for late reply, I was busy with some other work. Links also matters for DA but it will not improve your DA directly. If you are delivering good content and you have quality traffic then it will not take long time, so you have to be calm.

    Great Post Indeed!

But recently I have heard that, the algorithm used by Moz to calculate Domain Authority is dying and giving many false results. Many bloggers are saying that, blogs Penalized by Google has High Domain Authority.

So, My question is, Is it correct that, DA is dying? or it is just a to keep spammers away from Domain Authority?

    • April 5, 2016 at 11:53 am

      Hello Lisa,

No DA is not dying, it still matters. Even recently I had referred some articles from Problogger and Quicksprout, in which they have mentioned about DA and it still useful. One survey mentioned on Quicksprout specifies that DA helps to rank high your old posts means if your one-year-old article is still ranking on the first page than it is due to high DA.

I am Linda, I own number of websites and I have hired people for SEO of all those sites, but Lately I myself learning something about technical stuff, which can help me handle my site son my own and latest i learned about Domain Authority and I have been working on it in past few months.

But despite having good internal Linking and god content, Most of my sites Domain Authority is around 15-20 which I think is not good, as I love to attract more advertisers and without having Good Domain Authority, it is tough to attract high paying advertisers.

So, what basically, I want to ask here, is there any way to increase Domain Authority quickly, I mean in 2-3 Months?

    ~ Linda

    • April 16, 2016 at 12:39 pm

      Hello Linda,

Sorry, actually there is no any shortcut for this. One factor is also I came to know recently that the expiry date of your domain means if your expiring date is near than it also affects but I don’t think that there is any connection between expiring date and DA score. Domain age matters a lot, so you should wait.
